I see where lawyers for Democratic and Rupublican parties are asking the FEC to examine what they say are lax screening procedures by the presidential campaigns.  Both are saying that the parties are permitting donors using false names or stolen credit cards to make contributions.   The article I read said concerns began to surface last month, mainly on conservative blogs.  See Hot Air, Michelle Malkin, Conservatives247 for just a few articles posted.

Obama’s compaign said they have taken a number of safeguards to add security to their system.  It runs a twice-daily sweep of new donations. Anything unusual are either cleared or refunded.  Obama’s compaign was quick to point out that they have seen similar problems at McCain’s campaign.

Donors to Obama using false names  with total contributions of $17,375 through 1,000 separate donations did not trip any alarms at the campaign.  Also they had 123 foreign nationals to enter donations without tripping an alarm.

Now we need to wait and see if the FEC will actually do something about the alarming rate of donations accepted by the Obama campaign that do not seem to get flagged.  I do understand that sometimes things slip through the cracks, but as you see with the test that the others have ran, more slip through Obama’s cracks than at McCain’s campaign.  It is probably too late for this campaign, but lets hope it can be cleared up in four years.  The way the government drags it feet on cleaning up the messes, it may not be long enough.
